Your
Computer |
If you're a PC
user, you'll want to use a computer which has at least an
Intel 486x or equivalent CPU. As a Mac
user, you should be using at least an 040-based
computer. PowerPC-powered Macs are preferable.
|
 Your
Computer's RAM
|
You can use a UNIX
machine, a Windows PC, or a Macintosh, preferably with at
least 16 MB of RAM. If you're taking a course
that is training you to use a computer application, or
that works with another application such as a compiler,
it's a good idea to make sure you have enough RAM to run
both your Web browser and that application at the same
time. |
 Your
Computer's Monitor
|
The Web is about
color--and PowerBuilder Online requires you to have at
least a 14" color monitor, running a minimum of 256
colors. You can use a smaller monitor, but your're going
to have a hard time seeing all of the course content on
such a small screen. |
Your
Computer's Modem |
You should also get
the fastest modem or Internet connection you can afford.
PowerBuilder Online courses are designed to work with a 14.4
or a 28.8 modem, but if you have a faster
connection, of course all of the pages will load faster
and your learning experience will be more enjoyable. |
| Your ISP and Web connection |
PowerBuilder Online
courses often use interactive quizzes and questions &
answers, so it's a good idea to be connected to the Web
while you're taking the course. If you use a service
that charges you by the minute for Web access, you should
consider switching to a "flat-rate"
provider. These providers will charge you one
flat-rate for an unlimited amount of time on the Web
during each month. Many offer a rate of US $20 or less
per month.
We can't recommend a specific Internet Services
Provider (ISP), but we can direct you to a few well-known
companies. You can read
what others have said about their ISPs and make your
own choice.
